W Is For Whitey The Cat

Years ago I had a white cat, whose name was Whitey. He was a very sweet little cat that would follow us around on daily adventures. Here are a couple pictures I took of my sister and Whitey the cat back in 1987.

Even back in the 1980’s as a kid I was having fun with my camera, and getting my sister to pose for me. It was a happy accident that Whitey the cat just happened to be in these photographs, and all these years later I am happy to see I captured a few images of this amazing feline friend.

U Is For Umbrella

The letter U is for Umbrella, and photographs with umbrellas can be quite mesmerizing.

It has not rained much this past winter here in Southern California, so I have not really had to use my umbrella. I keep hoping for more rain now that it is spring, but rain drops from the sky seem to be elusive this season. When the rain rarely comes you begin to miss small things, like the muggy smell of raindrops hitting the warm pavement on a humid spring day. Some people probably detest that smell, but this year I seem to yearn for it.

T Is For Throwback Photography

Today T is for Throwback Photography, and currently I am looking at some old photographs from a family vacation. Usually throwback photography is reserved for Thursday, but since today we are writing about the letter T, I decided to explore this topic. This is a picture of my taken back in the summer of 1982 during trip to the Red Rock State Park in Arizona. Pictures are often worth a thousand words, and I feel inspired a draw an image such as the burgundy colored rocks with trees cropping up here and there.

Some people do not enjoy looking at other people’s photographs, but I always enjoyed pouring over old pictures, and wonder about the story behind each snapshot. There were a few old photographs that the previous owners of my childhood home left behind, and I enjoy looking at these as a kid. My dad and grandpa were always interested in photography, which made me want to get a camera and start snapping away when I was old enough.

I might not own an DSLR camera, but this has never prevented me from taking photographs that I find inspirational. Since my photography is often the inspiration for my art projects, I believe the photograph needs to speak to the individual rather than worrying about how the general public perceives it. Thus, I will always be mesmerized by old family photos, and probably could entertain myself for hours if I stumbled on a photo album someone left behind. I would wonder about the stories of each person in a scene, and probably could learn quite a bit about them by just looking at the photographs.

S Is For The Santa Fe Depot

This Santa Fe Depot is no longer in operation here in Redlands, but I think it is still amazing train stop to walk around and admire the architecture. I like to imagine a time back when people boarded the train here, and I think it would be so convenient to have a train stopping here again. Here are a few pictures I took of the Santa Fe Depot here in Redlands.

O Is For Open Spaces

Today the letter O is for open spaces because I am continuing to share the photographs I took on my hike up in the San Bernardino Mountains. Personally, I enjoy nature since I grew up in the mountains, and it is comforting to see trees, rocks, wild flowers, chaparral, and other plant and animal life can be found out in the open during a hike.
