T Is For Time To Make A Smoothie

It is time to make a smoothie for breakfast.
It is time to make a smoothie for breakfast.

So you are getting ready to leave the house and running late, so at the last-minute you contemplate stopping by a smoothie place. Did you realize you could save money if you got up a little earlier and just made your own smoothie? I know it is difficult to schedule time for such things, but making a smoothie at home is fresher, and the ingredients are easier to control. For this smoothie I pureed six bananas with a cup of strawberries and a small orange. I added a bit of almond milk to the base of the blender to aid in blending.

Create whatever smoothie tickles your fancy, but just think of all the cash you can save by blending at home. Also, you do not have own a Vitamix blender to make smoothies, although I do admire those machines. My Oster blender gets the job done, and it has lasted me for two years, which is longer the last Magic Bullet blender that conked out after four months.

  1. I’m totally on the smoothie train. Still trying to figure out when is the best time to have one. I just made them with a regular old Black & Decker blender until the hubs got me a Ninja for Christmas which btw is AWESOME. I’ve experimented with several different recipes, but here’s the one I like best:

    1 banana
1/2 cup or so of other fruit of your choice
    1/2 cup fresh kale
    1/2 cup OJ
    1/2 cup kefir
    1 raw egg
    1 TBSP matcha
    1 tsp chia seeds
    1 tsp flax seeds
    1 tsp wheat germ
    1 tsp turmeric
    dash black pepper

  2. Thought I’d pop in and say G’day. thanks for visiting Square pegs. I don’t cook, and I’m not vegan, so this theme doesn’t really interest me. However, I wish you well. Only 6 posts to go, and we will be A to Z survivors. Keep up the good work.

    1. Thanks for stopping by. I also post some hikes and photography stuff in Southern California, so it is more of a mix-mash theme. Hope you are enjoying the challenge.

  3. It is always less expensive to make your own –whether a smoothie or something else — and just as you said, it gives you control of exactly what ingredients go into it. I am all for choice!

  4. I congratulate you on not spending tons and informing people how much cheaper it is and healthier for them to do it at home. Too many people just go out and spend when they can make it at home

    1. I feel like making most things at home is cheaper, but that is just my view. Also, smoothies are healthier when made at home because a lot of the smoothie shops add extra things, like processed sugary ingredients, which are not necessary in a fruit smoothie that is already sweet.
