In a garden here in Southern California I spotted a California sister butterfly, which is known by the scientific name Adelpha californica. In the past I was always curious about different species of insects and animals, but blogging and the Internet has actually prompted me to learn more about these.
Insects are less fearful up in the mountains than down here in the city where it is much more difficult to capture these creatures. I was quite ecstatic that I photographed a bee in mid-flight next to an oregano plant.
I love your pictures and video of the California sister butterfly and the bee. I see many butterflies here, but none like that one. It is special to your area.
The California sister butterfly is native to this area. I have not even seen it in the city, only in the mountains and deserts.
Cool looking butterfly and how nice that it just sat there for you. The picture of the bee is stunning
The insects just seem more tame up in the mountains. I think they know this garden is a safe place to be, so they are not afraid if a human is around.
Buzzzzzzz. I want to think the bee knew you were taking its photo so stood as still as can be and smiled. 🙂 I remember seeing many different butterflies when I was a kid. It’s nice to see a variety come back to our area. Haven’t seen a California Sister one yet. Love that name.
I think maybe the California sister bee is more indigenous to the Southern California areas, such as mountains and deserts. I never see it down here in the city. I would like to think the bee smiled, they are so tame up in the mountains. Insects fly away down here. I am glad more insects are coming to your area.
